This home in Napa’s Alta Heights neighborhood was a love letter to the 1970s. With its sunken living room, sweeping fireplace, and low-slung roofline tucked among mature trees, the home had unmistakable character. The client, an artist with a deep appreciation for the era, purchased it with a clear vision—to honor its original spirit while bringing it into the present.
Our role was to help make that vision livable. We reimagined the layout to improve flow, expand storage, and reconnect key spaces—like the kitchen, dining, and living areas—to each other and to the outdoors. Underused rooms were repurposed to serve the family's day-to-day life, and natural light and circulation were rebalanced throughout.
In collaboration with Kate Crowley of Studio Sempervirens, the interiors were updated with warmth and prudence.—modern materials layered with subtle nods to the home’s original style. The result is a grounded and expressive home that bridges past and present with ease.
